Idle Time

I noticed that the pointers tutorial‘s Creative Commons badge had gone missing. I guess they got tired of people hotlinking it.

So I grabbed it from the Wayback Machine, and when I did, I noticed that it’s in the classic 88×31 format used by so many miniature promotional images. If the phrase “Netscape Now!” means anything to you, you know what I’m talking about.

There’s been a growing trend of making new 88×31 images, some in higher resolutions for modern hi-DPI displays. So I thought I’d do one: redrawing the classic Creative Commons bug as a vector image that could be exported as SVG and as high-res PNG.

I think the original image falls under the CC-BY (Attribution) 2.0 license that was then current. I’m happy to place these new images under the same license or the newer 4.0 version.

There are no official ebooks of SICP, but there are a few unofficial ebook conversions from the free web version. Here are the two best versions I’ve found:

• Ian Eure’s epub version, for iBooks and various other non-Kindle readers. You used to be able to download the epub directly from that repo, but GitHub has discontinued download hosting. This direct download link (thanks, Michael Tsai) should work for awhile.

  In anticipation of the GitHub download link eventually failing, I’ve made a mirror of the repository on Bitbucket, which still hosts downloads; I’ve uploaded the epub to that repo.

• There are at least a couple of Kindle versions; of which the better is Tim Camper and Jonathan Patt’s mobipocket version. The mobi file is actually versioned in the repo, so you can download it straight from there.
