Apple Bug Friday! 74

2008-02-22 23:37:05 -08:00

This bug is Typo in syslogd(8) manpage. It was filed on 2008-01-19 at 15:41 PST.

Summary:

The description of -fs_ttl refers to -utmp_ttl, but the reference contains a typo.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. man 8 syslogd

Expected Results:

“As in the case of -utmp_ttl, …”

Actual Results:

“As in the case of -utmp_tt, …”

Regression:

None. syslogd did not have a -fs_ttl option to describe, nor a -utmp_ttl option to refer to, before Leopard.

Notes:

The typo is that the U+006C LATIN SMALL LETTER L at the end of “-utmp_ttl” was omitted.

The omission must be an error, not a deliberate reference to a -utmp_tt option, because there is no -utmp_tt option.

If you make that much effort for a trivial typo (the fixing of which will no doubt spare people agony), how much effort would it take to file the ‘make syslogd ≠ crap’ report?

I had to kill the little POS again when it used 100% CPU and 200MB RAMthis afternoon and as a consequence I’m left without working logs…

Can’t say as I’ve had that problem. Have you filed a report yourself?
