Report-an-Apple-Bug Friday! 66
This bug is File type of GIF files in UTI list is incorrect. It was filed on 2007-07-01 at 18:18 PDT.
Summary:
The file type of GIF files is ‘GIFf’, not ‘GIFF’.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Load up the list of System-Declared Uniform Type Identifiers.
- Find public.gif. Note: It’s actually com.compuserve.gif. —prh
Expected Results:
The OSType for GIF files is stated as ‘GIFf’, with the lowest byte being U+0066 LATIN SMALL LETTER F.
Actual Results:
The OSType for GIF files is stated as ‘GIFF’, with the lowest byte being U+0046 LATIN CAPITAL LETTER F.
Regression:
This wasn’t a problem before the existence of the list of UTIs. Not that I’m complaining about the existence of the list.
Notes:
Three-letter file-format abbreviations are notoriously hard to represent in four-byte type codes. Examples from the list include ‘GIFf’, ‘PNGf’, ‘PDF ‘, ‘BMP ‘ and ‘BMPf’, ‘.SGI’, and ‘ASX_’.
