This bug is iTunes does not FNNotify after moving items to the Trash. It was filed on 2007-04-13 at 19:56 PDT.
When you tell iTunes to move an item to the Trash, it does not FNNotify after moving the item.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Make sure that the Trash is empty.
- Visit the iTunes Preferences, Advanced pane, General tab.
- Make sure “Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library” is checked.
- Click OK to dismiss the Preferences.
- Add an item to the library.
- Select the newly-added item.
- Press ⌫.
- Click “Move to Trash”.
- If the Dock is set to automatically hide, slap it so that it pops up.
Expected Results:
The Trash icon in the Dock is kFullTrashIcon.
Actual Results:
The Trash icon in the Dock is kTrashIcon (the empty icon).
Regression:
None.
Workaround:
Click on the Trash tile in the Dock. The icon updates.
Notes:
Due to this bug, it’s possible to go for some time without noticing that your Trash is occupied.

Your bug-report preceded mine by 7 days (it was marked duplicate). I’d noticed that behavior for months before I realized I could send a bug report to Apple about it.
